Vitamin C Has Potential to Slow Cancer

Low Back Pain Recovery Slow and Uncertain

Low Back Pain Recovery Slow and Uncertain

Current clinical practice guidelines state that 90% of acute lower back pain patients will recover within four to six weeks, with or without treatment. However, new research published in The British Medical Journal has found that recovery from low back pain is much slower than previously thought.

Australian researchers from The George Insitute studied patients with acute low back pain for a year. The results from the study found that even with treatment, after two months only half of the patients had recovered from the original episode of pain. After about one year, 40% were still reporting that their back was still causing them pain. (Read more about Low Back Pain Recovery Slow and Uncertain)

The Paradoxical Vulnerability of Men

The Paradoxical Vulnerability of Men

Dr. Marriane Legato discusses what she believes to be one of the most interesting issues concerning men. At any age, from birth to 85 years, men die at a greater number than women. Their vulnerability in the womb is very interesting. About 250 male fetuses are conceived for every 100 females fetuses and, yet, the birthing average is a one to one ratio. So why are those male fetuses dying at a greater number in the womb? Why are they less developed than girls at birth? They're about six weeks behind their sisters when they're born. And if they're premature and have a low birth weight, they're much more likely to die than girls. (Read more about The Paradoxical Vulnerability of Men)

Five Steps To A Healthy Sleeping Environment

Five Steps To A Healthy Sleeping Environment

The human body uses electrical impulses generated in the brain to facilitate intercellular communication. This is only possible because our bodies are composed mainly of water with a high mineral content, making it highly electrically conductive. With so much information being passed through our body, it's not surprising that electrical exposure from external sources in our sleeping areas can disrupt some of its functions. Some people develop symptoms when they experience long-term exposure to levels of electricity, such as: headaches, hyperactivity, nightmares, depression, fatigue, eyestrain, and muscle cramps. Environmental Toxins and Early Puberty in Girls

Over the years, scientists have speculated about the negative effects of environmental toxins for years, wondering what emerging implications would be. New data published in The Journal of Pediatrics suggests that certain environmental toxins may disrupt the normal growth and hormonal development of some girls. Such toxins, like mycoestrogens found naturally in the environment, have properties similar to the female reproductive hormone estrogen, and are structurally similar to anabolic growth agents used in animal breeding. Men's Death Rates Cut Drastically Through Daily Exercise

Increasing exercise capacity reduces the risk of death in African-American and Caucasian men, according to research on the link between fitness and mortality, including over 15,000 participants. Reported in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, the researchers investigated exercise capacity as an independent predictor of overall mortality for African-American men (6,749) and Caucasion men (8,911) in addition to analyzing whether racial differences in exercise capacity influenced the risk of death. Each participant was tested by a standardized treadmill test to assess exercise capacity. They were encouraged to exercise until they were fatigued or unless symptoms of cardiac ischemia developed. These individuals were then tracked for an average of 7.5 years. (Read more about Men's Death Rates Cut Drastically Through Daily Exercise)

Detoxifying the Body

In today's world, many dangerous chemicals are poured into our foods and into the environment, and our bodies have become a dumping ground for toxic chemicals like acrylamide, sodium nitrate, phytic acid, and hydrogenated oils. Some people have chemicals in their tissues that were never intended for the human body - such as rocket fuel, mercury, lead and others.
